| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description For undergraduate World Regional Geography courses, or for a courses on globalization or cultural diversity. Diversity Amid Globalization explicitly acknowledges the geographic changes in today's world by emphasizing both the homogenizing and diversifying forces inherent to the globalization process. This approach allows the authors to emphasize the interconnections that bind people and places together. The globalization approach challenges students to make critical comparisons between the regions of the world in order to understand them more fully. Examples of the sorts of topics used to accomplish these goals include: *The rise of Islamic fundamentalism in SW Asia. *Aboriginal groups using high-technology tools to forge common political survival strategies. *The economic and political integration of the European Union, contrasted with micronationalism and the factionalism in Europe. *Ethnic diversification in the face of strong participation in the global assembly line in SE Asia. *The globalization and localization of beer consumption and production in the United States and Canada.

Pleased Used Book Purchase September 29, 2008 This book was in really good shape for the price paid, it shipped quickly and came in 5 shipping days.
Essential reading for the changing times. February 9, 2008 I took this course not knowing what I was getting into. I needed one more class to certify my financial aid. I had been wondering about globalization and other issues affecting the new world economy. If you want to know what the future holds for you and how you can make your millions, this is a great read. I don't know why the other reviewer is complaining about the difficulty. I am certain that you are being taught what you need to know. Read a bit slower, think some more, and have some discussions with your classmates and your professor.
geography book November 21, 2007 This book is so broad and not easy to understand unless you are a geography major or a graduate geography students. Not only me, but other classmates aren't enjoying the book. If you can get another geography book that uses simpler terms.

An excellent textbook for an introductory geography class September 3, 2003 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an excellent textbook for an introductory geography class. The first chapter is a general introduction with an explanation of some of the terms and vocabulary used. The second chapter covers world physical geography. The rest of the chapters each covers a different region of the world. Each chapter is divided into five sections: environment, population and settlement, culture, geopolitics, and economic and social development. This book describes the details of the different regions of the world and gives us a good idea of what life is like in these different regions. And, it ties what we learn about the different regions to the overall theme of diversity and globalization. The accompanying maps and photographs are beautiful.
