McPhee's account of Matisse's artistic career journey is very readable. Very well researched. Gives the reader much insight into Matisse's struggles and triumphs.

I love the format - the vintage postcards and photos,
the colorful maps, views out the window, the people,
the informative sidebars. Brought back many fond
memories of Vence, Cimiez, and the other locales.
