5 out of 5 stars An absolute "must-have" for anyone planning to use hostels in their travels across America.   July 10, 2007
Written by Colleen Norwine, who has personally visited over 250 hostels, Great Hostels USA: An Inside Look at America's Best Adventure Travel Accommodations is an excellent, easy-to-use guide featuring candid reviews and insider tips. Color photographs on almost every page illustrate this Independent Publisher-award winning travel guide spanning states from California to Wisconsin to New York and even the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec. Each hostel description includes at-a-glance "fast facts" such as its dorm rates, office hours, size, style of bathrooms, and other important considerations; address, website, and phone contact information; several detailed paragraphs about what to expect; and particularly noteworthy comments as to whether specific hostels are suitable for solo women, travelers over 30 or 50, couples, families, groups, or party animals. An absolute "must-have" for anyone planning to use hostels in their travels across America.

4 out of 5 stars Good honest information for the traveler   July 31, 2006
I have found this book to be a very informative read. There are many suggestions and tips on what to do where to stay and what type of hostel suits what type of person. The writer has certainly captured some valuable information for the traveler and the pictures contained within the book are very handy. I am looking forward to utilising her recommendations when I travel to the USA in 2007.

I have never found a travel book that I have fallen in love with within two seconds of looking at it. Everything about the book hits you so quickly and efficiently. It's style, the pictures, the nice, glossy pages... all I can say is wow! Like a good journalist, she never keeps any information from you. It has nearby attractins, whether it's good for 30-year-olds or 50-year-olds, any caveats to beware of. I want to travel just to see the hostels for heaven's sake! She makes them look so good in the book.

5 out of 5 stars A really great guide   August 21, 2005

The author dropped off the corporate ladder to travel the U.S. and Canada to bring us an insightful guide to adventure travel accomodations. The guide is easy to use and fun to read. The book is full of pictures (including inside pictures). As an added bonus, the book is lightweight so it won't be a chore to carry.
