A great book June 29, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had thought of a trip to Scotland for awhile and about a year ago got somewhat serious. I purchased this book as I didn't think I wanted to have a "tour" planned for me. I wanted flexibility if I should go. Once I received the book, I used it, along with a map of Scotland, to plan a potential trip. I got to a point where it was so much fun and interesting, that I thought if I never go on a trip, planning and learning about Scotland was worth the book and the time I was using. Well, we went on our trip in May, 2005. The book was invaluable to our having such a wonderful, wonderful time in Scotland. The book was our introduction, our education and resource for making our trip truly outstanding. If you love golf and have a thought of going to Scotland, don't miss this book.

This book has a very targeted audience - golfers who intend to plan their own trip to Scotland. If you're in that audience, this book delivers incredible value. I've now planned two trips to Scotland using the advice and information in Ferguson's book. His recommendations on absolutely everything from renting a car to getting your clothes laundered to how to book tee times on both high and low profile courses have proven to be completely on the mark down to the most minute detail. Practical advice aside, the author's enthusiasm for golfing in Scotland is infectious and makes planning your trip almost as much fun as the journey itself.
Top-Notch Advice for Golfing in Scotland October 22, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Allan Ferguson writes a book that in essence competes with his own successful golf travel agency. One finds in Golf in Scotland excellent recommendations for lodging, dining, & local attractions worthy of a visit. But the main emphasis is on playing the game. Allan's course descriptions, strategies for obtaining tee times on exclusive courses, suggestions for savings on greens fees, & tips on what gear to bring are invaluable for organizing a great trip. This book will help make any Scottish golf visit a most enjoyable experience, regardless of the "wee breeze" occasionally encountered on the course.
Packed with helpful hints -- a must for "do-it-yourselfers" October 20, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having just returned from a week in Scotland which was totally planned around the suggestions in this book, I can't tell you how essential this book is to a successful golf trip to Scotland. Allan Ferguson provides all the necessary information to book your trip from tee times to car rental tips to even bringing a wool knit cap (for which we are eternally grateful!) His love for the history of golf and Scotland shines through his wonderfully refreshing writing style which makes this "how to" book a delight to read. While the book helps those who must play St. Andrews, it is packed with information for those interested in the non-marquee courses, which we found equally as challenging and enjoyable to play.

I purchased this book about a year ago to plan my upcoming trip to Scotland. The bookings are all made: tee times, lodging transportation (rental car). Everything was just as Allan said. Very smooth and easy. I would reccomend this book to anyone planning to visit the home of golf.
