Very helpful! June 2, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With this book, you should have all the help you need to plan your own golf trip to Scotland and save yourself the mark up normally applied by the big tour operators. Mr. Ferguson takes you step by step through the process in an easy to understand fashion that can lead you to savings of 50% or more versus the big guys. The course descriptions alone are worth buying the book. They are invaluable in sorting out which courses to play when mapping out your trip. Buy the book if you are considering a trip to Scotland, you will not regret it.
A Must Read For Scottish Golf Trips January 25, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading through Golf in Scotland I was so impressed I called up Allan Ferguson and enlisted his services to plan my last trip. This book not only describes how the tour operators overcharge for their services but offers clear alternative for planning a trip. Allan divides the country into sections and then highlights the golf and cultural interests of each section. Trips are then suggested that take in one section or a combo of two or more depending on interests and time constraints. Allan knows Scotland inside out. He is a pro and planned a faultless trip for me. His attention to detail and the binder of information he creates for each persons trip was truly remarkable. I would highly recommend the combination of this book and enlisting Allan's help to anyone planning a Scottish golf trip.
A must buy if you plan to travel to Scotland to play golf! March 15, 2003 Must buy. Great inside tips. Good reviews of the courses to help you decide which ones to target, especially if you're limited by time and money - like I was.
Great planning guide April 15, 2002 I am a "do it yourself" traveler, and like to get off the beaten track. This book has a lot of great suggestions on courses, itineraries and places to stay. It goes into quite a bit of detail on the more famous courses; as an example, there is a whole chapter on St. Andrews. There is useful information about playing courses like Carnoustie and Turnbury as well. But best of all are the course descriptions of many less well known courses. We are going in June, and when I return, I will post another review as to how accurate the guide is. I have used the book to determine which courses we will play, where to stay, and how to get tee times at some of the more difficult courses. I also like the web site references he gives, which allow you to see a little more info on lodging.
read the book and start packing February 13, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
ever dream of playing the old course? allan makes it possible. he gives you everything. i've created a relationship with the Sporting Laird hotel, a wedge away from the old course. they are already my friends. inquired at the old course and carnoustie for me. no problem as a single. i received the book in early february and will arrive in st. andrews apr 4th. so many great courses within 10 miles. do it now, not someday, cause there will be a time when someday never comes.
