If there is anyone who is planning a trip to Scotand to play the great courses of the home of golf, Allan Ferguson has written the only book they will need to plan their trip of a life time.In his book "Golf in Scotland: A Travel-Planning Guide with Profiles of 60 Great Courses" Ferguson goes through all that one needs to plan their trip on any budget. From renting a car to hints on getting on the Old Course this book has it all. Just finding the Belhaven Hotel in North Berwick was worth more than the price of the book!

If you have any doubts that you yourself can plan a trip to play golf in Scotland, this is the book to own. This travel-planning guide can decrease your costs by one/third to one/half. I know I've done it. Included are definitive descriptions of the courses by a person who's played there. Travel ideas, routes to get here and here, suggested itineraries, places to stay at any price range, decriptions of towns including pubs are all included. Great book.

I am currently planning a trip to Scotland to play golf in 2002. I found this book very informative and detailed with valuable information on planning this trip. He has information that can help you determine if you would like to use a tour service or not. You also get a good comparison of actual cost vs. tour prices. If you decide to do your own booking, he gives good suggestions on how it should be planned and all of information you need to book golf courses, hotels and transportation. This is must reading for anyone planning a golf trip to Scotland!
Great Help for the First time Traveler October 15, 2001 Allan Ferguson has made planning my trip to Scotland fun as I discuss with my son our first trip to Scotland. His golf course descriptions, fee schedules, maps of Scotland, and recommendations have enabled us to discuss together plans for our Father/Son adventure. Half of the fun is in actually planning our trip. Allan's book contains invaluable information as well as a glimpse at his sense of humor and genuine love of Scotland and her people. I think it is a must read for anyone who is thinking of traveling to golf's birth place. We were excited about our trip before reading the book, and now our excitement is even greater. I've already read it twice and am anticipating a third read as soon as I can get it back from my son.
My Trip to Scotland October 13, 2001 Allan has put all the essential details into his book for anyone to plan and complete their trip tp to Scotland and enjoy not only the golf but also the hospitality of the Scottish people. He personally helped me with the details of my trip to the Inverness area this spring and I had a wonderful time! I was concerned somewhat about making the trip alone, however that proved no problem, as each detail of the trip was planned so well. His comments and advise about staying in touch with the local Scottish hosts is important to having a true Scottish golf experience. I was able to play with German, Scots, and English companions during my stay. I highly reccommend both his book and his style of planning a Scottish Golf experience
